Dear Church Family,
The Leadership of the Church Pray this finds you all doing well, being productive and drawing closer to God in what are strange times for all of us. The COVID-19 Virus has changed many aspects of our lives. The one aspect we must not allow to change is our Hope! The intent of this letter is to generate Hope as we are faced with challenges.
Throughout scripture we see the People of God in terrible circumstance and God rescues them. All of Scripture points toward Jesus and toward the Cross, when all seemed lost, Jesus died … but three days later he rose from the dead! We find our Hope in Jesus and we are not afraid, because He told us not to be!
We want to communicate what the Leadership at Smoky Hill has been doing and tell you of the very hard work each of the various ministries of Smoky Hill have been up to. Please visit our latest blog for details and informat
From the Pulpit: Pastor Dan Williams remains our faithful interim Pastor and we are so glad for his service and presence among us. Recently Pastor Dan filled the pulpit at Smoky Hill and delivered messages that were videotaped and will be delivered for Palm and Easter Sundays. In place of regular services we have recorded and will make available sermons for the next four Sundays. We will put the sermons online as close to the date given as possible. To access these recorded sermons online go to:

From the Deacons: Each of our twelve Deacons shepherd a small flock for our congregation. It is our hope that you have been contacted by your Deacon and you know who to contact when you are in need. Your Deacon should be your first point of contact if you have a need or question. The Deacons remain in contact with each other and have been working with the Trustees to make decisions that affect Smoky Hill Baptist Church.
From the Prayer Chain: Please continue to send Prayer Requests and Praise to Tom Laing via text or phone at 303-906-3530 or, email at firstname.lastname@example.org. He will do his best to get out a text message quickly and follow up with an email.
From Men’s and Women’s Ministries and Christian Education: Both Men’s and Women’s Ministries are currently not meeting or engaging in group activity. However our Men and Women are both invited to a Virtual Time of Fellowship. We will be using Zoom as our meeting platform. You will need a computer with a camera, speaker and microphone to completely participate. The meeting for the Men will be at Zoom.US at 10 am, beginning this Saturday, April the 4th. Go to Zoom.us and click “join a meeting”. Then put in the Meeting ID 758-149-941 and Password 251280. Our Women will be meeting starting Saturday, April 11th with details forthcoming.
From the Trustees: The Trustees are also happy to announce that work on our Memorial Circle has begun. The damaged trees and shrubs have been removed and will be replaced as soon as they become available. The replacement bricks and any new bricks requested have been received. We will be meeting with the brick layer soon and hope that work on the bricks can begin once the plaques have been received. We anticipate work to begin in May. We will also have a fence in-place between our property and the church next door within the next few weeks so that we can stop cars from cutting through our lot causing damage. Lastly, we anticipate that the work to fix the damage caused by hail will continue in May. The companies doing all the work are exempt from restrictions and are usually comprised of one to two people who are able to keep appropriate distancing. We are happy to be able to provide these small companies with work during these tough times.
From the Pastoral Search Committee: The Pastoral Search Committee (PSC) has continued their work and the Committee is excited about what God has in store for our future. The most important information to share at this time is the timeline for introducing and voting on a candidate. The process calls for the PSC to announce they are presenting a candidate to the congregation. This would presumably be on a Sunday. The candidate will deliver a message two Sundays later. The Sunday following that, the candidate will preach again. A written vote will be taken immediately afterward with the church members that are present. A 75% affirmation is required to formally call the candidate. The committee can present only one candidate for affirmation of the congregation. If the vote for the candidate is not favorable, the committee will be disbanded, a new committee will be formed and the search is repeated. We currently have no provision to complete this process other than by an in-person format that meets the requirements of our Church constitution and bylaws.
In all of this continue to share in the blessings of Faith, Hope and Love. Jesus told us that the greatest of these is Love! The people of our congregation certainly Love Our Lord and Savior as well as one another through all seasons of life. The well-known verse, Romans 8:28 “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose”. My Brothers and Sisters, this assures us good things are to come out of our current situation!
